acquisition

In the field of acquisition, camera-systems for the production of stereo and panoramic media (with two or more cameras) are to be examined. Classical stereo recording for 3D-cinema with two digital film cameras (D-20 from ARRI) will be considered as a reference.

The main emphasis will be put on the construction of a multi-camera-system and the developement of the algorithms needed for this.

The basis to this is the mini HD-cameras developed by the Fraunhofer IIS. The objective is to develop and to examine multiple-stereo-rigs with three or five cameras as well as omni-directional set-ups for panorama-recordings.

A particular challenge will be the evolution of algorithms for calibration, control and preprocessing of the recorded images.

The target consists in the progession of practicable and user-friendly multi-camera-systems, that can also be implemented in professional shoots, and that already support online-processing.

Subsequently test-material is intended to be shot for the project with these set-ups.

At the same time requirements and data-formats are to be specified and workflows to be examined.
