Megacine
In the framework of the PRIME project, the Fieldrecorder Megacine has been expanded by 3D abilities. Now it can at the same time record and play a stereo camera pair’s two parallel HD flows. The cameras are able to record either YCbCr422 or Bayer Raw data.
During the data download from the Megacine to the PC, two separate image sequences for the left and the right camera are generated. Next to this a sync signal generator has been integrated into the Fieldrecorder, which allows for the cameras to be synchronized for recording. Hence a compact setup with cameras and Fieldrecorder is possible.
Further improvements of the Megacine, which are currently under progress, are higher data transfer rates between Megacine and PC in order to reach faster backups of the film data.
The Megacine is the basis for recording at the PRIME project. Further Information about the Megacine can be found here.
Flashbox
From the Megacine Fieldrecorder’s practical experience a new Fieldrecorder has been planned and designed.
A significantly new aspect is the launching of flash-based cartridges as storage media, which allow for durable operating of the recorder. Thus it is ensured that work will soon continue on set.
For those storage media SATA II was chosen as the transfer link, so that fast discharge of the cartridges is possible.
First tests have shown the basic applicability, though for practical adoption there are still some changes in the design to be done. Further information about the FlashBox can be found here.
